Thriftanista in the City

Thrift shopping commandment states "though shall not buy clothes that do not fit". I am known for breaking that commandment over and over again. How can I resist the bright pink of this silk Robert Rodriguez top? I picked it up while thrift tripping in Austin  over a year ago. Instead of tossing, I decided to upsize and refashion it by creating an open back.

I love to thrift on vacation. One of most enjoyable trips was taking a road trip with my bestie to Unclaimed Baggage in Alabama . That store is packed with gems. It has a department store feel but you get a taste of thrift because of the lost treasures inside. The Parker dress is one of those gems.

I do love summer when it reaches peak hotness level when you can't even fathom wearing clothes but you have to if you want to go out in public. The bikini top is just the right thrift find for the occasion. Here's why it's my new favorite:

It's not everyday that you come across an african print batik dress in a thrift store. It's hand sewn and had some flaws but I bought it anyway. The refashion was way more involved than I thought and I probably should have left it behind. The fabric was just so yummy though.

It took me a while to plunge into thrift shopping online. I'm a touch and feel kind of girl. I like finding that diamond in the rough. I like the cheap prices from doing the search and rescue myself. Sometimes a fantastic piece finds its way into my Instagram feed and I go for it. It's a bit scary making a purchase based on what is usually one image. I've had good experiences so far. Even if it doesn't fit the vision, you can still make it work.
