Style File: floral granny shorts

I took V out in the carrier yesterday. These floral granny shorts were the perfect choice for babywearing. The waistband is nice and stretchy. It didn't interfere with all the other stuff I had going on around my waist. While I love my granny bottoms, I know how frumpy they look so I added some jewelry and bright purple lips to "de-granny". I've been obsessed with elastic waist pants ever since my pregnancy days. After V came, I didn't want to give them up! I'm completely hooked.  Whatever the trend, I'll keep rocking them and hope they'll make a mainstream comeback. Did I just here a *gag me and never* in the back? The Oogieloves in the BIG Balloon Adventure: Review and Giveaway

A couple of months ago, V and I were invited to an advanced screening of Oogieloves in the BIG Balloon Adventure. Armed with creative thinking, teamwork, and enthusiasm, the Oogieloves set out on a quest to find magical golden balloons in time for their friend's surprise birthday party. It stars Jaime Pressly, Cloris Leachman, Chazz Palminteri, Toni Braxton, and Cary Elwes. The roles they play are hilarious and will appeal to the over 7 crowd while keeping it G rated, of course.  The Oogieloves are super adorable and will keep everyone singing and moving to catchy little songs. It's an interactive film so the little ones (or the entire family) can move around and be as loud as they want to! It really is a movie the family can enjoy. There's no scary parts, no one dies, and there's no bad guy. It's quite engaging for toddlers. Just look at Violet's face? She danced a little bit too! She was probably watching the scene below given her passion for bubbles! For the...

Style File: sequin blouse and ostrich pumps

How I love to sparkle and shine -- literally and figuratively. I found this sequin and beaded top last week. It was just about to go out on the racks when I spotted it. It gave off a 70s disco vibe with the iridescent sequins and shimmering beaded bridal appliques. Do you like it?  My shoes are a recent find too. Brand new leather pumps in my size. Ostrich embossed leather and a chunky wood heel with a gold metallic trim. Love. Treasure!!! Blue leather clutch is an old thrift find recently discovered while unpacking. I put a whole lot of bags in storage when we first considered a move 3 years ago. Treasure in my own back yard. I said that baby would be photobombing me. First V and now mystery baby. Ostrich leather pumps from Banana Republic. $4.90. Similar styles are approximately $128. Can't beat that with a bat! I don't know why I'm all Vanna White with my clutch. sequin and beaded silk blouse // thrifted blu...

Violet's Birth Day: a repost

Since today is Violet's birthday, I'm reposting our birth story. We had quite an adventure. Two years ago I became a mother. It all started on August 27, 2010 at 9:02 am. I was a week past my due date and was settling in with the idea that I would be pregnant forever. I turned on the tv to watch a DVR’d Project Runway episode. I sat on the couch with my legs tucked under me and heard a pop and felt wetness. I ran to the bedroom to grab my cell and text Him (priorities). I continued to leak heavily and decided I should probably sit on the toilet first and stop making a mess. I got myself together and sent the text. I then called the midwife and doula and gave them a heads up. Lastly, I called my mom because she wanted to be the first to know. I told her it was beginning and not to call me (like she did everyday towards the end of my pregnancy). I would call her as soon as Little Miss was born. I showered but continued to leak heavily but did not have any contractions. I’m not ex...

Zapatistas with #blmgirls

Friday, I met up with a great group of bloggers for dinner at Zapatistas. Fab Ellis was in town for the weekend and invited her Bloggers Like Me sisters to join her for dinner. I'm always excited to meet other bloggers. Unfortunately, I haven't had many opportunities to do that. Not just being in the same space but actually sitting down, sharing a meal and learning a little bit more about each other. We had great conversation and noshed on Mexican food. (SN: if you go to Zapatistas make sure to try the fish tacos. They were the hit of the table.) My outfit for the evening included a 2 piece self sewn jersey dress. I made it a few years ago. It's from a Dolce & Gabbana pattern. Naturally I had to use leopard print fabric. Last seen here .  I wore a camp shirt over it because I wanted to add some color and have more coverage.  Wedge sandals are 9West and I'm carrying my thrifted Fendi bag. I haven't seen it in a while. Rediscovered it while un...

Style File: Statement necklace, boxy blouse, and shorts

Last night, I attended Malibu Rum's Music Explosion at Castaways. Complimentary drinks plus apps and a fantastic dj! Since I was headed for the beach, I wanted to go casual but pulled together. I relied on a statement piece, sparkly nails, and heels to crank it up a notch. Otherwise, you're looking at my "in the park mom 'fit". 90's boxy blouse, shorts, and sandals are thrifted. hello giant thigh back porch posin' Orly's Mermaid Tale There's a mom and baby in the building next door. Style File: polka dot midi skirt

I have had this polka dot skirt in my closet for a while. I never wear it though. I love the midi length. It has an elastic waist (woot woot!) and a great cut. It's an all year around skirt too. I haven't found anything in my closet that goes well with it. It's been in my toss pile many times but I always retrieve it before donating.  It just doesn't seem to mix well with anything. Yesterday, I tried it with this vintage pink blouse. It's ok but I don't think it's picking up the rock star capabilities of this skirt.  Am I giving this skirt too much credit? Keep or donate?  Hey Ms. V, coming to freshen me up with your giant lipstick rattle? I did a switcheroo on my shoes. I had errands to run and certainly didn't do them in heels. DIY: color block clutch

Easy DIY projects are my favorite. I love the instant gratification. My clutch is one such project. I spiced up a thrifted grey clutch with a few coats of cobalt teal acrylic paint.  Presto. Change-o. Done! It didn't take much paint either. You will be seeing this color on more bags, shoes, and whatever else I can think of. What do think? Purse flipped over to other side. Of course I didn't take a before but it looked like this pre-paint.  What I Wore printed peplum blouse // custom made sample from eShakti* jeans // Akira platform pumps // MIA / thrifted * eShakti is currently having a 25% off sale and is providing my readers with an extra 10% discount using code:  MA22LET   ~ expires 8/31~

Style File: long green tunic and skinnies

I have a special place in my heart for tunics. It's another one of those throw on and go pieces that I'm fond of these days. This one is a lovely shade of green with a stripe and flowers pattern. I'm pretty sure it's home sewn. I find the neckline to be a bit high and have plans of opening up the slit in the middle. It only needs one cut down the center. I just have to find the scissors.. Everything else has been seen before. The jeans were last seen at a fashion show . Sandals seen here  and here . I love them. I can stand in these for hours and my feet don't feel like I'm walking on bloody stumps.  Do you own comfortable high heels? long green tunic // home sewn / thrifted jeans // Refuge / thrifted platform sandals // Gianni Bini / eBay    Note: My lips aren't stained purple with wine -- this time and this early in the day.
