Thriftanista in the City

We're approaching the end of summer and I am still thrifting hot weather clothes. I should probably focus on how I'm going to store all of the great treasures I've found the past 3 months. With this thrift haul, I didn't spend as much as I did at Unclaimed Baggage  but I was a little bit over budget spending $36. Retail value was over $200 though.

There comes a time in every thriftanista's life when she has to pick a pocket or two. Pockets are easy to remove and can be just the minor change to transform the look of a piece. The orange maxi skirt went from sporty to casual cool. The pocket on this dress was just disrespectful so it had to go.

My 80's denim skirt is broken in and comfortable with fun details like a faux front pocket and a metal designer tag. It sits high on the waist with a long zip fly. ''Fashion is what people tell you to wear. Style is what comes from your own inner thing.'' I happened upon the quote in researching info about the 80s vintage skirt. The words are Pauline Trigère and the skirt is Trigère Sport for Schrader.  It speaks to my own style "inner thing".

Exercise is not my favorite activity but thrifting is. It does get me moving. Take a trip to my gym and discover how I justify my shopaholic ways as cardio. I've also discovered a treat within a treat with the most delicious on the go snack I've ever tasted.

Because of my deep affection of all things ankara, I gave an old pair of thrifted peep-toe sandals a new look by covering them in a yummy african print fabric.

There's no combing or brushing required. Wash day can be a bit of a struggle. It's easier now that I have shorter hair. Curling (my style of choice) is the hardest part but once the curls are in there's not much I have to do to it. My one hair care goal is to keep my hair moisturized at all times. Dryness does become an issue but I can solve that problem in 4 easy steps.

I wasn't sure a drop waist dress was quite my style but I liked the color blocking and the casual but structured look of the dress. I gave it a try and I'm glad to have found yet another style that works for me. While it wasn't my idea of a thrift store score, it did turn out to be a great find. I decided to buy a smaller, portable substitute so that we can enjoy the experience without necessarily being out on the town. Sometimes you just want to stay home with wine, snacks, and a movie. I purchased an e-Cig without having a clue about what it was other than it reminds me of the hookah experience.

I made a last-ditch effort to hold on to a couple of necklaces from my jewelry stash. I discovered a few pieces that I don't wear but I want to keep them anyway. I grabbed a can of spray paint and in under 30 minutes I was wearing a new statement necklace!

This is my idea of summer time mom style perfection -- a pull on day dress, light jewelry, and a comfortable yet stylish wedge. I'm glad that perfection can be found at my favorite stores and most of it is thrifted.
