9 months: Stand Up!

My "mature" baby turned 9 months on Saturday. We marked the occasion by having a Captain Morgan Long Island Ice Tea Pour and Party people over for a barbeque. Wow! Since that 6 month mark time has been flying by. What does she like right now? Standing, standing, and more standing. She's approaching the cruise but now quite there yet. Sometimes she needs assistance getting back down to floor. Every time I turn my head she's standing against something (unless she slips and crashes to the floor then she's laid out on her back).  I'm selling some of her "baby" things so that I can buy a new baby carrier (so I can get around) and a walker (so she can get into more things). Anyone use a walker? Love it? Hate it? Her eating has really improved. She loves sweet potatoes, green peas, and french fries. However, she's still a milkaholic and a snacker of all non-food items (lint, shoe soles, toilets, oven, floor, paper, tissue). He...

A Day In My Life

This was our day yesterday...a series of successes and failures just like life overall. WIN: Met up with the Chicago Mama Collective for a play date at Chase Park's Tot Spot. I'd never been there even though it's fairly close. They have a nice soft place for 0 to 18 month olds to play. It's $3 so it's also cheap! There were a lot of soft objects to climb, knock over, and roll around on. FAIL: I didn't want V to miss naptime so I walked to a thrift store after carrying her on my back. She knocked right out only to scream bloody murder when we go in the store. I walked out and marched up and down the street. She fell asleep only to wake up 10 minutes later wailing again. My girl is not a thrift store fan. Thinking about her next move FAIL : V was scaling my legs while I was cooking so I wrapped her in a front carry. It's difficult to operate in the kitchen like this (not recommended) but I do it anyway. Sliced my finger while cutting tomatoes. Dinner prepara...

Shoe Style Saturday: Oxfords for Any Occasion

After a long hiatus I retrieved them from the back of the closet. I wore them to an interview yesterday. The shoes are far move interesting than the interview. I've worn these as a "going out" shoe, an everyday shoe, and an interview shoe. The look great with skirts/dresses, jeans, slacks, and leggings. They're very versatile. The slightly pointy toes aren't very comfortable on my wide toes. I still need to break them in. Do you like them? What would you wear them with?

VIP Moms Grand Re-Opening of the Denim Lounge

Last night I had a lovely weekday momcation. Laila invited me out to the VIP Moms Party for the Grand Re-Opening of the Denim Lounge.  I was super excited to go and meet a fellow tweeting blogging mom in person. She also works, is in school, and practicing to be a doula - WOW! It was great meeting her in the flesh. She's so nice. She has a good energy too. My social anxiety weirdness went away as soon as I saw her. I didn't have to load up on the liquid courage juice at all. Loving that flower in her hair. I noshed on really good pizza from Robey's, washed it down with a cup of red and then a cup of white provided by Lush PLUS a couple of mini cupcakes from Sprinkles. Liquor, pizza, and cupcakes. So wrong but so right. There were fruit and veggies too. I ate a lil bit of that too. Not as fun as the alcohol, salt, fat, and sugar! I got a mini-manicure provided by Head 2 Toe Mobile Spa. I chose purple polish because we all know by now....PURPLE IS MY FA...

Wordless Wednesday - Pointing Is Bad Manners

One of us woke up every 2 hours last night. One of us had a nap this morning. One of us lost a few points on the cutie scale. One of us is buying the other one sushi for lunch. One of us will be woken up every 2 hours throughout the night on their 16th birthday.

Shoe Style Saturday: Eggroll-Toe & Chunky Heel

I had forgotten all about these shoes until today. I used to be worried about what I would wear them with but now I just focus on the neutral color of the shoe and not the heel color. I want this heel on all of my shoes. It's a great shape and easy to walk in. The top of the shoe reminds me of an eggroll hence the title.

Movie Night

Last week I went to see Jumping the Broom with the Real Girlfriends meetup. It was my first time in a theater in a really long time. It was so nice to just sit and watch. No baby. No internet. No cooking. No eating. No multitasking. I now want a day (or 7) to watch all of my favorites. His head would probably explode though if he had to watch them all! Breakfast at Tiffany's - I love Audrey and I love her best as Holly Golightly. She was so confident and pretty. The clothes, gahhhh. In the movie (the book has the real source), her dates give her $100 for the powder room. Sign me up for that job! Rosemary's Baby - Hubby sells her uterus to spawn the son of Satan in exchange for fame and fortune. I could tell Guy was a peen before he made the pack with the devil. Cooley High - I know every line from this movie. I want to go on a Cooley High tour and go see all the spots from the movie. *singing* It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday (the original not the Boys II Men ...

Wordless Wednesday - She'll Grow Into It

Mommy and Me

Me and Mom in Uganda. She's the LIFE OF THE PARTY and I am not. This picture pretty much sums it up. V gives me the same "Oooo Moooom" face already.

Shoe Style Saturday: Peep toe & Gold

The shoes I'm wearing today. I want to replace the laces with a pretty ribbon. What do you think?

Fabric Scraps D.I.Y.

I saw this over at Fashion Dujour Daily and knew I had to give it a try. I have so many scraps that I've been hoarding  saving just in case I find a small project for them . I have lots of jewelry too that I do not wear. Maybe now that they are joined together I'll wear it more. I like it. I had planned on doing some sewing instead of covering jewelry. There's 1 very important item still missing. THREAD! It's still in storage. I have to get back to Hancock for thread and a zipper. Of course, the 50% off on these items ended yesterday.  Le Sigh. Happy Monday!

Mother's Day Came Early

- He did it! He retrieved a box of fabric and sewing supplies from "the cave" (our storage room in the basement). I have not been in the cave since we packed up non essentials items last year. We were trying to get the place ready to put on the market. It's still not on the market and we're definitely not show ready. - I won a pattern from Simplicity. - I bought a few patterns at Hancock's Vogue sale. I'm working on Vogue 1157. It's a Tracy Reese pattern. I think it would look great with one of my wax prints. I thought it would look nice mixing 2 different prints kind of like  Boxing Kitten . I think the fabric I chose is too mild. This is more like it! What do you think? It would involve a 2nd trip to the cave.... - I'm hosting a housepartyfun event. This is the first one. It's for Captain Morgan Long Island Iced Tea. Dare I wear a pirate costume? Too much? I must say the vision board is really working in the party area. If you're local you sh...
