Halloween: Pink Poodle Baby

Happy Halloween! Violet did not go trick or treating on her 2nd Halloween but her grandmother was kind enough to supply us with a costume. My mama knows that she wouldn't have one otherwise. This costume is super adorable and I think V enjoyed wearing it. She was all smiles in it.

Thrifted Treasure: Shoulder Pads & Granny Pants

This is an experimental ensemble. It's a little bit outside of my comfort zone. I'm wearing clothes from decades past on the top and bottom. I like it but will I feel confident in it? We shall see as I'm most likely wearing this tonight. It's cold out there. I'm thinking of swapping out the shoes for black tights and black pumps and adding a leopard or yellow sweater. Thoughts? I bought the silk blouse at my thrift adventure meetup with twitter/blogger/entrepreneurial friends SewSoDef and OnlyLaila . Off topic a bit but who goes all the way out to the suburbs without taking clear directions, gets lost, doesn't add minutes to they're pay as you go cell phone, takes a camera but doesn't take pictures AND FORGETS TO BRING MONEY? That would be me. Due to the kindness of SewSoDef I was able to leave with my loot (including a beaded jacket, pjs for V, and 80s purple pumps.) It's good to have friends! I'm not a complete loser. I reimbursed her via...

*Violet Says: Don't Sell My Chair

This is my favorite chair. You're selling it? Really? It's not too small for me. It fits well just like this outfit. *Series name change because I can't stop captioning and I'm never wordless on Wednesday.

Weird or NTB (Normal Toddler Behavior)?

Before having a baby, I'd never spent much time around babies. I had no clue about their habits and such. V does some pretty quirky things and I'm not sure if this is just what babies do or is she just doing Violet. The roaring started early on and continues until now. She loves roaring and growling. I've walked into her room to do a dreamfeed and hear her making animal sounds in her partial sleep. She will use anything as a walker. Even though she is walking on her own now, she tries to get extra speed by pushing against objects. The weirdest being her sippy cup. Of course, this was a total fail and resulted in a face-plant. She puts everything on top of her head not just hats, sunglasses, and bows. She will try to put purses on her head, toys, paper, leaves. Every. Thing. She can't have 2 kinds of food on her tray. If I put her two favorites on the tray - cheese and mum-mums. She will chow down on 1 and ignore the other. She loves to dish out hugs but kisses have to b...

DIY Neon Earrings

Pinned this. Pinned but the link was broken. Pic found on fashionbombdaily.com ...and was inspired to do a quick DIY during V's morning nap Thank you, Pinterest. You inspire my creativity. What are you creating?

Thrifting Thursday: Tassels & Vintage

It was a cold, rainy and extremely windy day yesterday. I went ahead with my plans anyway. I incorporated a bit of summer brights to cheer me up a bit about the craptastic autumn weather. The georgette blouse has a drawstring waist and dolman sleeves. The top is a bit short on me so I just left it loose for a more boxy look. It has so many colors in it. I think it's a versatile piece that can dressed up or down. I bought it because it looked brand new even though it's from the 80s. It has a cute little tassel on the front and back. They're a bit raggedy now that I've washed it but still cute. I've had the coat for many years. It feels like a wool knit. It's vintage. It has the union label tag! I love the shape and how well it fits me. I can never pass up an item that fits my arms. It has a gorgeous orange lining that is in need of repair or replacing. The buttons are beat up too. When I bought it, I had grandiose ideas of replacing the lining and buttons m...

Wordless Wednesday - The Collection @ Lincoln Park Zoo

This one is great for my collection. I'm going to need a lot more to complete the collection. Are there any good CUPS over there?

Thrifting Thursday: Cheetah & Denim Treasure

This was not my intended outfit. I was trying out the cheetah top with a beautiful vintage pink Oleg Cassini skirt. I thought it would be cute. I looked very matronly though. I was pressed for time trying to beat the clock on V's nap when I took this picture. I snatched up the pants in the nick of time. She woke up soon after. I'll have to come up with something else for the skirt. It's long full and pleated. Thoughts? I'm learning so much about how I dress by taking pictures. I wish I could do it everyday. There would be a lot of yoga pants and nursing tanks though. *yawn* Anyway here it is. I'm wearing a Liz Claiborne animal print from decades past. I do believe there's a comeback for Liz that happened or is happening. Anybody know? The fabric is lightweight and just a little bit transparent. It requires no ironing and it's nursing friendly. It hides a full belly too without being humongous. It has side slits that hit me at my upper waist p...

Violet Speak

Bad Mommy These are V's words that I am able to decipher maziwa (milk) The only sign she knows. We haven't gone too much further with her signing. So far, we understand each other up The first spoken word I trained her on. Cuts down on a lot of grunting. She uses it when she wants to be picked up or put down. hugs Heart melty of a word to know. She says the word and then gives the best hug. night night So happy that she picked it up and knows what it means. She uses it when she's ready to nap and when it's time for bedtime she will say it before turning to her side to sleep. Sometimes she will take her pacifier out, say night night and put paci back in to get back in her sleep groove. Cute! maji (water) It's an obsession. She asks for it all the time. I think breast-milk has moved to her second favorite beverage. thank-you Every time she hands something over she says thank-you as if she's teaching you manners. oga (bath) She chants it every time she's near t...

Thrifting Thursday: Green but no Kermit

The lovely blazer was purchased for me by GirlGetALife. I didn't have cash on our thrift date and didn't want to use my card for a purchase that was roughly $1.50. I love it. I don't wear a lot of green. I didn't think it would compliment my skin tone. I was wrong. It's a great color on me. It's petite sized so it fits my arms too -- a rare occurrence! The dress has puffy sleeves and an elastic waist. My best guess is that it's from the 80s. It's purple. My number one reason for purchasing it is the color. PURPLE! The belt is a leopard print made with some kind of "hair". A synthetic pony maybe? You know I have a love of all things animal prints. I absolutely had to pair it with the purple. I can't get my camera setting right. I'm very orange-y all the time. Note to self: Get rid of the mickey mouse box. I had to change after a couple of hours though. This outfit is not nursing friendly *sad face*. Why yes I am still nursing. ...

Wordless Wednesday - Frolic in the Park

I'm walking. I'm walking with a leaf. I'm tired of holding this leaf. I think I can craft this into a hair accessory. What's over here? Ahhh, the swings. My favorite! Eek! Look at that lion. Just kidding. Put the camera down and push me.

Brain Dump III

Violet walks like Fred Sanford. I googled "fred sanford walk" and discovered this is pretty common for the new walker. I'm still thinking about the delicious brunch Girl Get A Life hosted in her home. Girl put her foot in it! I need to update my vision board . Some visions have happened (I have an iPad) and some I'm no longer interested in (Paris? meh, not this year). I have to start writing down my brilliant ideas *Blair Warner hair flip*. My memory is bad and I'm constantly remembering I had an idea but no idea what it was. I made a vegan pizza with Daiya cheese that was so good. It's the best vegan cheese out there, in my opinion. I'm hosting a BzzAgent* Black Box Wines and a Houseparty* Sabre party. I would like to do them on the same day and make it a crafting event. I recently won 2 Eversave** giveaways. The first one was through their FB page. I won 2 "saves" for Fabulous Nails and the 2nd one was on a giveaway hosted...
