Thriftanista in the City

It's time for another round of 10 Questions for a Thriftanista! Our thriftanista this month is Nia B . I've known her many years. She's a good friend to my mama and she has become a good friend and estate sale shopping buddy of mine. She's also a natural hair stylist and beauty guru. She has all of the answers to all of your questions. Today we'll ask her about thrift style!

As an overall lover of free stuff (who isn't?), I was excited to receive  Iman's Lip Affair Kit  from my gal pal Girl Get A Life . She went to an advance screening of the movie About Last Night and was kind enough to gift me her swag since I couldn't make it to the screening. Awwww, it's good to have friends. I have to admit. I thought it was an eye shadow palette and just knew it was going to be filled with cheap looking metallic colors that one would expect in a complimentary palette. I was so wrong. A. It's a lip palette. B. It is awesome.

I am very grape colored today. I matched my lips to my purple dress and I did it on purpose. It's been a while since I went into purple geek mode. If you're new here and haven't already figured it out, I love the color purple. I like purple things. I named my daughter Violet. I am about that purple life.

Wide leg pants are on trend for Spring but they have been trending in my closet for a couple of years now when I found  vintage plaid pants at Savers during a Black Friday sale. I don't wear a lot of obviously 70s clothes but the high waist just spoke to me. 

Due to an awesomely busy weekend, I have no outfit pictures. I wore my  diy sequin skirt for my mom's night out but most of the time was pretty casual in my SAHM standards. Here's a look at what I was up to. It was a perfect weekend packed with thrifting, sushi, day drinking and more! Naturally there was thrifting. I did some Valentine's Day thrifting on Friday. I treated myself to a   Village Discount trip while V was in school getting sugar wasted at a party. I bought small randoms for $3. The skirt was only .10 so it was basically free. The next day, I went to another Village Discount. I was in the mood for grimy thrift .  I went with my BFF who dropped in from ATL. It's so much fun thriting with friends. Do you agree? It's double the eyes spying good treasure. I spent $14 and found some great items including a vintage jumpsuit that I'm going to sell. I love the epaulets!

There are definite advantages to working inside of the home. Being able to dress anyway I choose tops the list. It's still a struggle in the wahm / sahm life though. Sometimes I don't see the point of getting dressed at all. Most of the day it's just me and V. I'm at the grocery store. I'm at the library. I'm at the post office. I'm home. I'm cleaning. Im cooking. I'm playing with V. Why put together a whole outfit?

It looks like Sochi outside so why not bring out the snow bunny attire? The ski jacket is an old thrift find. Due to its inability to cover rear in extreme cold conditions, it's hardly ever worn but I love the retro look and bright yellow color.

Thrifting requires creativity . That's why I'm a big fan of buying the pieces you love. When you buy the pieces you love, you'll find a way to work them into your wardrobe. I found this leather trench coat 2 years ago. I wasn't sure if it was a coat or a dress. I'm still not sure. Hence, there's another dress underneath the leather.

I love to match unconventional pieces together. A glam metallic gold blouse underneath an animal safari jacket is probably the most daring pairing to date. I like safari style jackets. I like animals on clothes. Therefore, finding this 70s vintage Abercrombie & Fitch hunting jacket equals thrift gold! It's that " cute ugly " I like. It's very unique with impeccable stitching, quality fabric, and even coconut shell buttons. You don't find details like this anymore!
