Thriftanista Style File: Shiny jacket and snakeskin peplum

Last night I attended the launch party for Seamless' iPad app at Highball Lounge. I felt like I had stepped into a Mad Men episode and the ladies restroom looked like a Tiffany's box. I ordered a meal using the app and the food was promptly delivered. It was pretty seamless! No problems. I went with girlgetalife and she ordered from a different restaurant. So we ate together but at different restaurants. :) What I Wore The jacket I'm wearing is at least 10 years old. I thought it was so dope when I bought it AND the matching boot cut pants. I loved it so much I had the cheap fabric tailored to fit my short limbs. Later on, I felt like a mobster in a bad shiny suit. I'm pretty sure I got rid of the pants many years ago. I kept the jacket because I keep all jackets. With trends repeating over and over again, I know that I may end up wearing it again. One thing about this particular piece...I do remember the fit being a bit roomier though. Funny how clothing shr...

Violet Says - Get Dirty

I like playing in the dirt. Especially when I'm wearing white. I can't see her face but I know Mama likes it too.

Thriftanista Style File: Vintage DOre

I seem to have deleted the content of this post accidentally. Boo.

Refreshing refreshments

Happy Friday! Cheers to you! I shall have at least one of these before the weekend ends... St. Germain Cocktail I had this at the fashion show I attended last week. So good. I guzzled it just a little bit. Luckily, the lady manning the station was very frugal with her servings. The recipe. If you decide to make one don't forget to invite me over! Green Juice Hey something healthy! I pulled out my juicer after over a year of hibernation. I had a spring in my step after drinking this. I think it's the ginger or maybe it was the coffee I had before the juice.  The recipe: Spinach (2 handfuls), fresh ginger (1 inch piece), a carrot, and 2 macintosh apples. It's delicious! Yes, really. Funf Sassy White A bargain bin find. The bottle is super cute and the wine inside is yummers. There's no other way to describe it. It's light with a little bit of sweetness. Drinking this wine taught me something new. Funf is German for five! Boozing AND l...

Thriftanista Style File: Green and Blue Romper

This is me yesterday wearing more mom clothes. Today I wore my thrift store shopping clothes and now I'm just down to a tank and ill fitting but comfortable cropped pajama pants...and they also have pink flowers. Tres chic! It was way hard to get a shot of this romper without creating a faux camel toe or maybe I really did have toe *checks self in mirror*.  No, it was just the camera angle. I love the pattern on it and last year I was all into rompers. I don't think they have the same appeal for me this year. Especially one from Miley Cyrus. I'm guessing this is made for a junior body. The jacket is on the other end of the spectrum and I just really like the color. It's lightweight too so I can cover my arms on warm sunny days and keeps my arms from breaking out due to sun allergy. Tribal print romper - Miley Cyrus (thrifted) Lime green jacket - Susan Bristol Petites (thrifted) Silver flats - Talbots (thrifted) Are there clothes from the Juniors section in your closet? ...

Violet Says - Dare to Dream

Keys and my legs will take me far and so will my imagination.

Thriftanista Style File: Color Pops and #KissNailDress

I am not complaining about the weather at all. I will say there are wardrobe challenges now since it's too hot for tights and wool dresses / skirts. My summer clothes are mostly wrinkled and packed away.  I won tickets to a fashion show and I needed a weather appropriate outfit. I was able to find this dress hanging out in my closet. I bought it during the winter months so it wasn't packed away. It's a pseudo bandage dress (minus the tightness) and it's color blocked. Two  past  passing trends in one! The green jacket -- I didn't put away because I adore the bright green color. The leather clutch is nice and simple. A nice break from my Mama bag. I'm thinking about a DIY for it. Neon paint? Hardware? or just leave it alone? The Stuart Weitzman pumps are growing on me. They're really girly. I smile when I look down at the flowers on my feet. Also, the heel height is really manageable on my "de-conditioned to high heels" feet. Voila! All ...

Cleaning room by room with Pine-Sol

This post is sponsored by Pine-Sol® Clean & Disinfect with Pine-Sol®: The Powerful Scent of Clean." I was compensated for this post as a member of Clever Girls Collective , but the content is all my own. Remember when I blogged about my new clean house routine? Cleaning a room a day? I sort of slid off of the schedule and it has been chaos. When my space is a mess, I feel a mess. This weather has been spectacular so I've been taking Little Miss around town and I've missed a few days weeks of cleaning. I actually enjoy cleaning once I get going. I find it relaxing. Why don't I do it more often? Well, my first priority is to Violet and she is very high maintenance. Weird. I thought baby wrangling would get easierrrrr. Kidding. A little. I especially like cleaning the bathroom MINUS toilet, blech! I love taking a toothbrush to baseboard corners and clearing out the dirt. Yes, dirt accumulates there often. I like cleaning the floor on hands and knees. You get...

Thriftanista Style File: Animal print and peep toe patent

I buy clothing that just aren't appropriate for traipsing through the park with V. By traipsing, I mean casually strolling for all of 10 seconds and then it's all marathon running to stop V from falling off of something or pretend racing (even though it's pretend, I'm still faster and I always win). This is yesterday's park attire. I think I need to take it down a notch since we'll be spending more time outside running around and playing in dirt/sand. I need to banish all low rise jeans from my closet. I mooned folks all over the park. This prompted a thrift store excursion, of course. I found 3 pairs that are a little closer to my belly button. One of them being a vintage pair that are just above my belly button. I feel very Crissy Snow (Three's Company) in them. I was hot yesterday in this jacket. Not HAUTE but hot! It was 80 degrees!!!! In Chicago! In March! What? I didn't want to take my jacket off though. The random tee I'm wearing underne...

Violet Says - Go for a walk

Sigh. I'd rather be walking. Gorgeous day. This is the "harsh winter" you're always complaining about? It feels great out here. ....and over here. ...and up here!

Thriftanista Social Club: A weekend of thrift

Saturday was the big day! The day the thrift challenge went down. I challenged the Thriftanistas to spend $25 or less and have the lowest price per item cost. 11 Thriftanistas competed. Two walked away with a $25 gift card to Unique Thrift. Everyone else received a $5 gift card for participating. Some people were still shopping after the challenge or went back for more with the shiny new cards. I almost stuck to my own personal budget of $20. Only $3 over. Purple peplum in a very dirty mirror. Ready for spring. Stuart Weitzman pumps. I'm not sure they're me. I'm going to either remove the bow or sell them. How I wish these were my size. Comfort heels. Not my size. Boo. They were in really good condition. In addition to the challenge, we had the opportunity to visit the store's sorting area. The supervisor treated us so well and answered all of our questions. She is responsible for the money fan pose! I love it. Our thrifti...

Thriftanista Style File: Akira and the Ballet Flats

This is my first time wearing the blouse. I showcased it on Perspective but I never got around to wearing it. I love that it's different from anything else I own. All that ruffle on the shoulders. Love. The black trim. Love. The color. Love (even though it's not a color I would normally seek out). The empire waist and baby doll shaping. It's growing on me. I didn't think I would be able to wear this anytime soon without covering up the ruffly shoulders. The mild temps are here again though. I'm also wearing ballet flats against bare skin. This is heaven. I love Chicago in au printemps  winter! Black v-neck shirt - NY & Co. Peach blouse - Akira Black Label (thrifted) Skinny Jeans - Akira (thrifted) Patent leather ballet flats - Ann Taylor (thrifted) Ruffles? No Ruffles? How's the weather where you are?

Violet Says - Go to Jungle Island

Uhmmm....Ma Ma. Mama! What's going on here?

Thriftanista Style File: Brown Dress and Purple Pumps

I'm having some time management issues right now so this post is short just like my dress. I've worn this dress before and blogged about it. It's one of the few items in my closet that He actually likes. All my other clothes are man repellant. I changed up the shoes though. Brown sweater dress - H&M (thrifted) Brown tights - Hue Purple pumps - Type Z How would you describe your style?
