8 Reasons Why Estate Sales Rock
Last week, I ventured out of the city for an estate sale. My belief is that the further you are away from the city the better the estate sale. Remember the vintage bracelets from the January giveaway? That one was farrrr too. It took over an hour for me to get to this one and there was a wait to get in. It was worth it though. It was a gold mine for seamstresses and vintage lovers. Me being both, my eyes were popping out of my head!
1. No thrift store stink. There's a distinct smell on clothes from the thrift. If you're a thrifter, you know. If you're not, don't let that deter you. Thrifting is still awesome. The smell comes right out with a wash or disinfectant spritz.

2. You can preplan visits with craigslist or estatesales.net. I like to map out the sales and look at pictures of what's at the sale. Estatesales.net is also helpful when I'm out and about. I can check the site on my cell for good sales in the area.

3. Less wear and tear. Since these items are fresh from someone's closet, you're more likely to find mint condition or new items.
4. Prices are negotiable. There aren't price tags on everything and you can still make an offer or bundle a few items together and make a deal.
5. You can really clean up on last day. Usually prices are 50% or more off on the last day of the sale. Possible 75% or more off in the final hours of the sale. Your special items may be gone but you can still find gems if it was a jam packed house.
6. The jewelry is awesome. The previous owner has probably been curating a collection over several decades. You can find high end pieces for a substantial discount. Sometimes the estate sale facilitator brings jewelry from previous sales too so there's more to choose from.
7. Estate sales are a collector's paradise. You know that oddball fascination you have with animal jewelry? There's someone else out there with the same fascination and has amassed every animal you could probably think of.
8. Easier to find vintage. These are the belonging of someone who may have lived in one house for the past 30 - 50 years. Sometimes the entire house is a time capsule. The prices are going to cheaper than your local vintage shop especially if you bundle!

Great finds. I have never ventured into an estate sale. Maybe I need to put that on my list of things to do very soon.
