I've been on a weight loss journey and one of the most difficult parts of my diet has been giving up my nightly glass of wine. I still indulge but I've limited myself to a 4 ounce pour once a week. That leaves a lot of unfinished wine. Wasting wine is just wrong.

Now that summer is coming and barbecue season is upon us, here's how I'll make sure that not a drop goes down the drain. Wine is good with meals, in meals and enjoying in a 4oz pour.

Buy the Box

Trust me. Not all boxed wine is bad. Black Box Wines is a world-class wine sourced from world-class regions. It stays fresh up to 6 weeks too. That's certainly  convenient when you've reduced the size of the pour. Black Box Wines have won over 50 Gold Medals for quality and it's the winner of 29 Wine Enthusiast Best Buys.

Let it Marinate

Cabernet Sauvignon is my favorite Black Box. It goes well with meat and is especially tasty with lamb. Here's a simple recipe I used for lamb that we put on the grill over the weekend.

Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Marinade

Ingredients
1 cup Black Box Wines Cabernet Sauvignon
¼ cup olive oil
½ tsp rosemary
juice of 1 lemon
salt & pepper to taste

Directions
Mix all of the ingredients together. Pour into a bag. Add meat (red is best especially lamb). Leave in marinade at least four hours.

Have Wine and a Frozen Treat Too

Wine frozen on a stick is just as yummy as you would expect it to be. It's also very refreshing on a hot, summer day. This red wine ice pop recipe is sweet and tart in flavor. It makes a great after meal treat.

Cabernet Wine Ice Pops

Ingredients
¾ cup Black Box Wines Cabernet Sauvignon
½ black current juice
¼ sugar
¼ water
handful of blackberries

wine ice pops

Directions
Boil the wine, sugar, and water together. When the sugar has dissolved, simmer for 15 minutes. Allow to cool. Blend wine syrup with juice and blackberries. Pour mixture into popsicle mold. Freeze overnight. Remove from mold and serve.

Summer Entertaining

My absolute favorite way to enjoy wine is to share it with others.  Black Box Wines makes it easy with an extremely compact and eco-friendly box. Just one box is the equivalent of four 750ml bottles of wine and at a price 40% less than comparable bottled wines.

Go ahead and invite friends over for a barbecue in the backyard. Take a box with you to outdoor concerts. Bring it with you to informal gatherings with friends and enjoy. For more great wine recipes and fun ideas, checkout Simple Entertaining Social Hub.
