Crop Top and Pencil Skirt + Giveaway

We're recreating looks we love with thrift or from our closet over at  Thriftanista Social Club . I chose a simple crop top and pencil skirt from my favorite YouTube series -- An African Cit y . The show is packed with inspiration. Everything they wear is drool worthy. I really need to get back to sewing or go on a shopping trip to Ghana.

{The Thriftanista Closet} Style Capsule #2

The bad thing about shopping for The Thriftanista Closet is that I find stylish goodies that I want to keep for myself. My closet is getting pretty stuffed and I seriously need to scale back. There's no way I'm letting my Goodwill birthday discount coupon go to waste though. I visited my favorite Northbrook store and picked this Akira ruffled dress.

{The Thriftanista Closet} Style Capsule #1

I haven't officially opened my online thrift store, The Thriftanista Closet . I'm still moving things around but it is up and running! One of the collections I'm starting is a Style Capsule where I will add complete looks that highlight some of my favorite fashion trends like animal prints, elastic waist, and other oddities that somewhat identify my style.  I will likely turn this into a series of posts listing the item, the price, and a few details about why I have them in my closet and why it could work in yours. I hope you will check them out and click the links to go directly to the item.

Thrift + Style: Plaid Dress

I'm not a super fan of plaid but I just adored the cut of this 80s dress with poof sleeves, nipped waist, and a faux wrap front. Since plaid is on trend for fall, I feel very fortunate to have found such a great piece! I wore it to my first trip to Rooftop at the Wit. It's an amazing hotel bar with magnificent views of the city. The food and drinks were spectacular just like the views!

Gimme Five Friday

Somebody had a late night and an early morning. I went for a  mom's night out including some sweaty dance floor action! About 30 minutes worth before my feet started to burn and I got anxious about getting enough sleep. Naturally, V wakes up earlier than usual because I went to bed later than usual. My knees hurt. Here, have some fragments and a great weekend!

Vintage 80s Sweater Dress

Are sweater dresses on trend? Who cares? I don't. As you know, I buy what pleases my eye and the peach and blue 80s dress did that for me. It has that midi  length I adore. It's a simple dress with a bit of wow in the navy blue stripes around the bateau neckline and sleeve bands. Plus the bottom hem has side slits! Love.

Thrift + Style: A Trench Coat

Trench coat weather has arrived in the city. Luckily I have 9 thrifted versions in my closet right now. I am a vintage trench coat fiend. The purple trench is my favorite but I'm still keeping my eye out for the traditional tan color. If I find a Burberry, you will hear me holler from your computer screen. I also have big dreams of a trench coat refashion. But alas, most of my diy projects don't happen as quickly as the sequin skirt .

Thrift + Style: Midi Skirt

I like polka dots but I don't love polka dots. The length and shape of this bias cut midi skirt is what I love most about this thrifted piece. Oh yeah, it's elastic waist , baby! A perfect choice for noshing with friends as we said bon voyage to Violet's favorite uncle and babysitter. Lots of eating and drinking. At the end of the night, my braces were aching and I was sporting quite the food baby. Good times!

Thrift + Style: Vintage Sequin Top

First time wearing the vintage sequin top from my estate sale haul. It was perfect for a girl's night out with Girl Get A Life .  We celebrated her birthday with tapas, cocktails, and reggae. Sequins were very necessary.

Sold on eBay!

Just before Christmas, I sold something on eBay for $51 that I bought for 0.25 at an estate sale! That sale got me pumped to sale more stuff I have around the house that aren't likely to be missed.  Multiple streams of income is on my vision board and I think increasing my eBay and Etsy sales will top the list of most profitable this year. My extremely modest earnings from last year were a 50/50 split of sponsored posts and online sales. These are the items I plan to kick off with. Once I get them posted, I'll be sure to share the link. I posted a mini haul over on Thrift. City. Life...

Thrifted Treasure: alice + olivia sequin trim tunic dress

I do not need another black dress. Of course, that didn't stop me from grabbing this tunic dress from alice + olivia. Beaded sequins and rhinestones all intact and not one flaw. There is currently one for sale on ebay for $299 . If you are interested in purchasing mine, email me . Size: Medium Material: 97% silk and 3& lycra $75 (free shipping, USA only)

Thrifted Treasure: 90's bodycon I.Magnin dress

I did a quick  2 hour thrift trip yesterday. I was specifically looking for sweaters and tops for me. Instead I walked out with a bunch of tops for Violet. No more 3/4 length sleeves and too tight onsies tucked into her pants. It seems like she stretched overnight.  I found a couple of things for myself but I really just wanted to share this beauty. It's orange. It's stretchy. It has fantastic details.  The dress is I.Magnin, I believe it's from the 90s judging from embellishments and the label. The price tag is still on it! Thinking about putting it in the Etsy shop. Do you like it? Would you buy it?

Making money thrifting

I'm going through a hustle spurt right now. One of my themes for this year is to make money on my own terms. To that effort, I give you ReGlam Vintage -- my Etsy store! Have you noticed the mini widget at the bottom of the page? It's been there a couple of weeks now. Take a look around. There's 25% off with code "windycitymama". I'm adding items slowly and some of the item specifics are still being included so if you have a question about at item just email me. My What I Wore is really just me "modeling" for the store. Looks a lot better than my floor shots. I need a mannequin in my life. WARNING: The pictures are heavily doctored for the blog because I got caught up playing in new picnik g+ creative kit. My Rosie the Riveter turban is my shower cap all tucked  and turbaned to keep my hair out the pics. Everything is thrifted except for the fabric scrap do-rag. I believe it was gifted to me. Love the color on the jacket. I don't s...
