4 Date Night Ideas For Couples on a Budget

Bryanda Law is the author behind the blog, 'Quirky, Brown Love', a blog that focuses on the importance of the positive portrayal of brown relationships and lifestyles in the media. On her blog you will find love stories, date night ideas and her latest series, the "Quirky, Fit + Fabulous" Challenge.

Not only can planning for date night be stressful with trying to figure out where to go and what to do, but also the actual date itself can be expensive! There are only so many times that you can go to dinner and a movie before you realize just how inflated the prices are compared to the value of what you are getting ($8 for some popcorn...I think I’ll pass). My boyfriend, Matt and I love beating “the system” and have set out to make our date nights more affordable during our 365 Days of Dates Challenge. If you are interested in saving some cash while not skimping on the perks of an awesome date night, make sure to incorporate these 4 budget date ideas into your weekly date nights:

1. Adventure Planning Date

This is a great alternative to dinner and a movie! This date calls for preparing dinner at home (try grocery shopping and cooking dinner together). After dinner is cooked and the table is set, turn on a little bit of music and start verbally planning your next adventure. First establish a continent, then country, city and finally a timeframe. Your adventure doesn’t have to be expensive; it could be to a neighboring city or state that you’ve never been to. Click here to see how we planned during our Adventure Planning Date!

2. International Food Theme Night

Everyone has to eat, so why don’t you get a little creative with dinner! A popular international theme that people usually stick to is Chinese food, but we planned a German-style Beer and Brats night and it was so much fun (and delicious)!

3. Homemade Happy Hour

This is a fun date, especially after a hard day at work. It can be tempting to just go to a bar at the end of the week, but if you are trying to save some cash, it is a lot more affordable to make your drinks at home. What’s better is that you get more bang for your buck when you buy your own alcohol AND you don’t have to worry about who is driving home! Need some brushing up on your bartending skills? 4. At Home Comedy Show

As much as I would love to see Kevin Hart when he comes to town, my bank account doesn’t always find him to be that funny! Instead, we have made at-home comedy shows a thing at our house. Netflix has a great variety of stand-up comedians, so all you have to do is pop some popcorn and let the good times roll! Our favorite at-home comedy show date was when we watched “Delirious” by Eddie Murphy!
