Thrift + Style: The PussyBow

I like pussybow blouses and not just because of the ridiculous name. It's a blouse and a necklace all in one! It increases blog traffic too for all the wrong reasons so if you arrived here looking for p and no bow...sorry it's just me and my thrift store threads.

I found this new deadstock striped version during the last Thriftanista Social Club ThriftUp. I really loved the pop of red and blue stripes and it has a good fit. It was $3 and since its poly, it will last forever with no ironing necessary.

Thrift a Pussybow

I don't run into pussybow blouses very often at the thrift store. It's one of those things you find when you're looking for something else.

DIY a pussybow by tying a thin scarf around the collar of a button up.

Try on in store as vintage size labels can be misleading.

Blouses of the 80s (a hot pussybow era) had big sleeve holes. Those don't look good on me. How about you? Another reason to try on in store.

Style A Pussybow

Your pussybow is your pussybow. Do whatever you like with it! Bwahhaa...

Anyway. No need for a necklace. Your front tie is all you really need.

It's a style that can be dressed up or down. Looks great with jeans or a pencil skirt.

While I like to tie the front, it looks weird. All pussybows aren't meant to be tied and of the ones that are, don't be afraid to side tie or tie it low. Experiment with your bow.

Visit The Pussybow Pinterest board for more style inspiration. I was shocked to discover new styles of this old fashion. The Emilio Pucci purple tie needs to get in my closet right now.

THRIFT vintage striped pussybow blouse - vintage front split red skirt - vintage earrings - vintage stretch belt - Jill Stuart clogs RETAIL Falke wool tights

***in other news***

The Jill Stuart clogs are a new find. They were brand new with the price sticker still on the bottom. Retail $350 at Nordstrom Rack! No one wanted them on eBay so giving them a try. Never saw myself as a clogs girl but they're growing on me. Love the wood heel and they are surprisingly comfortable for a 5" heel. They're a size 9 but I wear an 8 and they fit just right. If this your style, email me. I'll send them to you for $25 including shipping.

If you didn't already know, this used to be a Violet focused blog 3 years ago. I think V wants her blog back. She's popping up more and more. #MySoCalledFashionBloggerLife

That is a funny name for a shirt but I like the one you have. The black and white pattern with the red and blue is really cute. :-)

LOVE this outfit! The bright orange with grey is especially awesome. I love pussybow! I didn't know there was a name either. i feel like there was a resurgence of that 1999-2001ish. Maybe it's just that i was thrifting more then. IDK. Anyhow, I had a bunch of shirts with that collar. I don't have them anymore but if I come across one it's nice to know I don't need to tie them.

Almost 80% of the tops I have thrifted are pussybow blouses. However, I wasn't aware of this silly name. :)

Yep, that's the name. Short for pussycat bow because that apparently what it looked like back when people put bows on cats. *shrugs* Front tie works too!
