Sequin Dress to Sequin Skirt Tutorial

I found a fabulous blue green sequin bodycon dress before my trip to Las Vegas. When I tried it on at the thrift store mirror, my fellow thrift sisters said "it looks great. Noooo, it's not too short at all".

They lied to me because I put this dress on in Vegas and proceeded to sit down and I could feel a good breeze on my buns. Yeah, it looked like a cute mini standing up but sitting down I was basically wearing a tank top.

Given my love of sequins, I could not toss it. I did a quick* dress to skirt refashion. It's the perfect little diy for an ill fitting dress or to add new life to the old dress you can't bear to part with.

Dress to Skirt DIY

Supplies Needed

a dress with some stretch to it

scissors

elastic to fit waist

sewing machine

Instructions

Step 1: Cut the top of the dress off just below armholes. You can try the dress on and make markings for accuracy. I put the dress on a table and held a ruler down over the dress and just cut.

Step 2: Make an elastic waistband that fits comfortably around your waist. Wrap the elastic around your waist where you want it to rest and cut off any excess. Sew the ends together to make a circle.

Step 3: Sew elastic band over the raggedy edges of your cut. Pin the elastic waistband to each side of the skirt and pin center front and back. Sew and stretch the elastic as you move along as it will most likely be smaller than the waist opening of the skirt.

Done!

*took a little bit longer because I tried to serge this bad boy. Big mistake. Your serger will get mad and spit needles. Don't do it.
