Dining Out Chicago

Chicago has amazing food and this is one of the reasons why I #LoveThisCity. Dining out is one of my favorite things to do (other than thrifting). That's why it ended up on the Christmas to-do list I created. I get to spend less time preparing food and more time enjoying it..Merry Christmas to me! As an added bonus, the entire family can indulge in a food experience that I'm not likely to recreate at home. Possible but not likely. Therefore, our foodie adventures are priceless!

There are so many restaurant choices in a variety of price ranges and to suit every palate. There is great food all over this city. Over the holiday, we were led to an old favorite and a new one!

After a fun trip on the Holiday Train, we stopped in at one of our favorite restaurants -- Ethiopian Diamond. A 15 year old fixture in the Edgewater neighborhood located on Broadway St. The food is fresh, authentic, and delicious.

Violet loves to munch on injera and try to pinch her food like Daddy. Her pinch is more of a dip. She has to work on her technique. She likes to eat the spicier dishes too! Babes has an iron stomach.

As with any good local spot, friends will show up. Seriously, our friends showed up out of the blue. Naturally we lingered and enjoyed our impromptu party. As you can see, the food for the table is served on one dish "signifying the bonds of loyalty and friendship".

Our second dining experience over the holiday was at Pauline’s -- “Andersonville’s most awesomest brunch spot in the Universe”. Violet and Daddy discovered Pauline’s while out walking one day. Located on the corner of Ravenswood and Balmoral, Pauline’s is a cozy, bright, and warm breakfast / lunch spot. There were even children's books to keep Violet entertained.

We picked a great day for brunching too. Chicago finally got a little bit of snow. E is on vacation. Violet's uncle is visiting. Obviously, we must brunch!

Violet read books and the adults studied menus trying to figure out which one of the yummy omelets to have.

I decided on the sun dried tomato and goat cheese omelet. It was phenomenal along with the sides of bacon and potatoes. I will definitely get to keep my membership in the clean plate club.

Glad Violet and Daddy shared this wonderful spot with us!

OMG, I love the pictures! And now I'm trying to remember the last time I had Ethiopian food. It's been too long.

Ethiopian food is one of my personal favorites. When I lived in Atlanta, I would go a few times every couple of months. I love dining out.

Wow- it's my dream to one day live in a city like Chicago so I can have experiences like this :) BTW- I know I've been out of the thrift loop lately so I'm not sure how long your banner has been like it is, but it looks awesome. And that last pic of Violet is adorable...(lol Ellen, the doll does look chilly.)
