She always looks like she's getting the good sleep in the Boba. |
Last week V had her 12 month pediatrician visit. This was her first time with a new ped too. My girl has a very big
The pediatrician suggested I supplement with cow's milk because she needs the fat. My belief is that she can get fat from other sources. She wasn't trying to hear that though.
V had lots of shots including her first flu shot. We've always declined it and I should have declined this time too. I have never had one and don't think it's necessary. Her new pediatrician gave me the gloom and doom speech and I caved.
That night she developed a fever. That's never happened with her previous vaccinations. She had trouble getting comfortable and cried every time we tried to leave the room. Ugh. I should have stood my ground. That would have been 1 less shot.
Going forward I'll be declining them in the future and I'll also be on the hunt for a new pediatrician. One who listens to what I'm saying.
Do you trust your doctor/pediatrician completely? How do you feel about the flu vaccine? Do you vaccinate your little ones?

When Mac was a baby, we went to the same pediatrician as my aunt's kids. Dr. Matthews. Ugh, she treated us so unkindly, I think because we were and looked so young. She actually gave us advice once, we followed it, and then she got angry with us the next time we came in.
We found a new doctor after that visit.
Then, they lost all his inoculation records. He would have had to had them all all over again had I not recorded the dates in his baby book!
All his docs have been great since then though!
@Ellen Stewart (aka Ellie/El/e/Mrs. Seaman) we had a great pediatrian in a great network when she was under my cobra. This is the second doc we've seen since. Not impressed.
Great decision on listening to yourself and opting out of getting anymore and looking for a new pediatrician.
We searched for a Doctor who would listen to our thoughts on vaccinating our children. It was difficult but we found one. All 5 of my children are not immunized. After about 3 different times of having some really concerning reactions we decided it wasn't for us.
The journey to stand up for ourselves was tough but our Doc knows us now and doesn't give us any slack!
I don't really pay attention to percentiles - I think parents like to use them to be competitive. Anyway, at Nia's 1 year a few weeks ago she got her vaccines as well. We watched for reactions but she had none. Tried giving her cow's milk over the next couple weeks and she refused so I'm still nursing. Good luck and hope lil Violet gets better soon!
We LOVE our pediatrician, but we also fully support a standard immunization schedule and so does our ped (so, I won't recommend him for you, as I don't see his practice aligning with your needs).
I never used to get the flu shot, but I did last year. When I was hospitalized at 30 weeks with premature water breakage. I got it for my son more than for myself, because I knew he'd be too young and too frail to get it if he was born early. I'm thankful I did - he came a few days later.
Thanks for sharing, Ladies.
@Quiana V is all better now and working on her walk.
@Nilsa I'm not anti vaccination overall. I just think the flu vaccine is one we she could have done without.
In that case, check out either Dr. Sagan or Dr. Vijay. Both in the same practice on Foster across from Swedish Covenant. Dr. Sagan (our ped) is a no-nonsense kind of guy - a straight shooter. Dr. Vijay seems to be more of a hand-holder (based on the one time we saw her and what our friends whose son goes to her say). The office refers out to Children's Hospital, not SC (in case that's of concern to you).
@Nilsa @ SoMi Speaks I'll put them on my list. I have to find out if they are in our small network.
