Best Austin Thrift Stores That Aren't In SoCo

One of my favorite things to do when visiting a new place is check out the thrift scene. Last year, I went to Austin and a lot of people recommended SoCo, a South Congress Austin neighborhood,  as the place to go. Admittedly, there are some amazing vintage store there but those perfectly curated collections come at a price. I did some searching and discovered a few stores that were were easier on the pockets and a great way to explore this gorgeous city.

Treasure City Thrift (2142 E. 7th St) This store has a very cool vibe. Donations are received from the community. I was introduced to Korean R&B music here. I did not know that was even a thing. They have a free market and a monthly .25 sale! It's a small store and they claim to have the cheapest prices in Austin. I found the sheer Kensie Girl swiss dot dress here.

Monkies (1904 Guadalupe St Suite C) Great selection of current styles and vintage at reasonable prices. It's not curated so you have to get in there and try stuff on. The staff is friendly and approachable. Be sure to ask about discounts. My favorite thrift find from Austin was purchased here -- an 80s Victor Costa floral dress with pockets!

City Wide Garage Sale (900 Barton Springs Road) This is a monthly vintage market where you pay $5 to enter and you're exposed to many vendors in one place. After going into sticker shock on South Congress, I was extremely happy to discover a $5 table. My favorite from this trip was a gorgeously embroidered top.

Texas Thrift Store (5319 North IH 35) This is a real thrift store. It's not cool or Austin weird. It's chaotic and the racks are packed with stuff. This is where you go when you want to find some wardrobe basics and discover unique pieces you didn't know you needed. I found a pretty home sewn tunic dress that I haven't quite figured out what to do with one year later.

Goodwill Central Texas Outlet South (6505 Burleson Rd) I didn't get to visit the outlet but it was on my list. This is a treasure hunt! Prices start at $1.49 a pound which makes it extremely affordable. You will have to dig though. The staff wheels out big blue bins and you search through them yourself. It's an experience every hardcore thrifted should have.

Have you been to Austin? Did it get weird?
