There's nothing I enjoy more than having family and friends drop in on us for a visit. Impromptu visits are always happening. We live close to the airport so we tend to have people pop in all year around. Our location is also a nice resting point for our road tripping friends as well. I've learned to stay prepared and have been able to quickly throw together quality food and drink with less than 24 hours notice.

Step 1: Plan Your Menu

If food and drink is flavorful and flowing, you cannot go wrong. My go-to meal is tapas style small bites. On nice days, it's the perfect alfresco barbecue too. My favorite dishes to serve are tomatoes with bread, bacon wrapped dates, and a Spanish tortilla.

I like to keep Böen Wines always on hand on my wine rack. Not only is it a nice after meal wind down, it's also delicious and approachable, making it a great wine to share amongst family and friends.

Tomatoes and baguette

Chop up tomatoes throw in some garlic, drizzle a bit of olive oil and top with a salt and pepper sprinkle. Guests can top the mixture onto a baguette.

Bacon wrapped dates

Wrap ½ a bacon strip around a pitted date and secure with a toothpick. Heat in the oven at 425° for 15 minutes. Done! Bacon wrapped dates are the perfect size for nibbling while mixing and mingling.

Spanish Tortilla

It's a simple and wonderful concoction of eggs, potatoes and onions similar to an omelet. It can be served warm or cold and is good any time of the day.

Ingredients

8 eggs
2 potatoes, thinly sliced
½ onion, thinly sliced
1 cup olive oil
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp smoked paprika
salt
pepper

Directions

Preheat oven to 375°. Cook onions and potatoes in a medium sized skillet. Whisk eggs and pour the mixture into the skillet. Bake in oven for 15 minutes. Allow to cool. Place a plate on top and turn the tortilla over into the plate.

Step 2: Make a grocery store visit

I love how quick the meals are. You won't spend a ton of time in the kitchen. The ingredients are simple and you likely have most in the cupboard already. Make a little note and make a grocery store trip as soon as you get the word of the visit.

Step 3: Prep Ingredients

I like to have all of my cutting and chopping beforehand. That's less time in the kitchen when it's time to party. Tomatoes can be chopped in advance and bread can be sliced. The bacon wrapped dates can be prepped and placed in the refrigerator until time to bake. Onions and potatoes for the tortilla can be cut and set aside too.

Step 4: Choose An Amazing Wine

A gathering wouldn't be complete without wine! My wine of choice is Böen Chardonnay. I'm normally a Cabernet Sauvignon kind of girl, but Böen Chardonnay has definitely won me over with its elegant and lingering palette. It's fruity, yet crisp. It's an easy wine that can satisfy all wine drinkers from the occasional sipper to the experienced oenophile.

Böen Wine is the purest expression of winemaker Joe Wagner's signature wine style. The name translates to "The Farm" and serves as a reminder that the wine is indivisible from the land it comes from. Sourcing from various vineyards throughout selected regions, Böen offers a complex representation of the most renowned Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wine growing regions in California.

Step 5: Relax and enjoy

Like I said, food and wine are the key to making an impromptu party a success. Don't make a big fuss about the details. Your guests are there to make merry with you. Keep the food simple, choose an amazing wine like Böen Chardonnay or Böen Pinot Noir, and share your best life with those you love.
