Thrift + Style: Vintage 70s Dress

This is a dress that made me squeal with delight! It's half 70s with the kimono sleeves and front tie neckline and part 40s era with the floral motif. I found it during last week's obscene Labor Day thrift haul. Seriously, so many goodies. Anyway snagged this dress for $1.50.

It had very old water stains on it. I sprayed it with spot cleaner and washed it. Perfection except for wrinkles which I ironed so you know I was really feeling this dress!

THRIFT A 70s DRESS

It's getting harder and harder to find pre-80s vintage in thrift stores. Ready fashion is cheap and plentiful so donated clothes are still pretty current fashion. You may want to go the estate sale or vintage store route.

how to style a vintage dress

When you find a thrift store packed with vintage dresses don't divulge the location. Kidding. I found this dress and some other fab vintage goodies at a Salvation Army I had never been to and it's a gold mine! :)

Luckily I was able to remove the stains from the dress but just be sure to examine your thrift purchases carefully for stains, tears, and other things likely to cause sad face.

Don't waste your time looking at the size label. This dress had a dry clean only tag and nothing else. Just eyeball it or try it on.

STYLE A 70S DRESS

Options are endless. Think of styling it as you would any other dress.

Beware of costuming. I wanted to wear my sparkly earrings and my ornate rhinestone bracelet plus carry a glamorous vintage bag. I had to step back because I realized I was starting to look like a Gatsby extra.

I chose to get a little edgy instead with a 90s leather clutch with animals and silver shoes.

You can also put your dress on display by toning down the rest of your look with simple, classic jewelry and accessories.

Girl, that dress is STUNNING. Seriously, it is gorgeous! You have such a great thrifting eye. And I totally agree - it's so hard to find anything pre-80s these days!

I love that bright blue color on you! I love the tidbit about over styling. It's so easy to take a theme and run with it and look like an extra in a movie. You make this dress look modern and the silver heels add a glamorous touch!
