African Print Crop Top

Ta-da! I finally sewed a little something last night. Actually, I started the project about a month ago but time got away from me. Since my sewing mojo has been dormant the last few years, I'm very proud to have knocked out an african print crop top!

I taught myself to sew about 10 years ago. I bought a book, fabric and a sewing machine and was all set to sew until I realized I had forgotten to buy thread. Womp. Womp. Once I bought thread, I was a sewing machine (teehee!) It was my weekend entertainment. I still enjoy it even though my interest have since moved on to thrifting, blogging, and raising a tiny human.

Right now my craft room is only partially unpacked so the space isn't very inviting which makes it hard for me to get in the sewing zone. The new ankara fabrics I bought in Uganda were calling me. I picked an easy dress pattern that I had already worked with before and just shortened it to make it a top. It should not have taken as long as it did to complete.

All of the major parts were together. It just needed some finishing touches. I got distracted and ignored it until last night. I walked into the room and when I saw it, I felt that exciting thrill of turning flat cloth into something wearable. It took less than an hour to finish it up and now I have a fresh new crop top to wear this summer.

A crop top with a smidge more coverage than store bought. It only shows a sliver of skin in the space above my pooch. I plan to make a matching pencil skirt (somebody hold me accountable) but for now, the high waist vintage denim skirt will do. It's from last month's Goodwill thrift haul. When I saw the length of that zipper, I knew it would be a perfect match.  Crop tops and high waist just go together.

How do you feel about the return of crop tops? Do you sew?

Umm, I love this top and I have totally been behind my sewing machine more lately. Been spending a lot of time making baby bibs, but I think its time for me to treat myself! Love the crop top - I think some are a little risque for me, but this one is perfect. #blm
