{Before + After} Buck Fifty Blouse
I scored a silk blouse with the most gorgeous embroidered sleeves for a buck fifty. The sleeves looked horrible so I had to remove them along with the high, tight neckline.
Two things I don't really mess with at the thrift store -- black and silk. I fear the all black closet so I don't normally seek out black clothes. I also don't pick a lot of silk because of the dry cleaning. I couldn't pass up the organza and embroidery detail so I snagged it. Black goes with everything so I know I'll get plenty of wear out of it. It perfect for all the holiday parties and gatherings that will be coming up soon.
While fondling it in the thrift store, I noticed how easy it would be to remove the sleeves and really make the fancy details stand out. I just had to cut around the embroidery and very close to the seams. As you know, I quickly loose interest if the project is too long so no sewing for now. Minimal effort and I think it looks way better.
First thought for a pairing was something bright and vibrant like pink or green but instead I went with sequins (a brand new $7 Salvation Army find by the way) and silver (free courtesy of JustFab). I like it. It's a complete look for under $10.
I feel elegant and pretty AND kinda like I need a drink in my hand. Where is the party?
What have you refashioned lately?

As for washing silk. I have never once dry cleaned my silk. I sew with silk a lot...and I've bought quite a few silk pieces in my life....so the trick is..cold water wash, gentle cycle and hang to dry. The only say dry clean only on their tags to "cover their behinds"
