Thrift + Style: the Grandpa Sweater
I feel hardcore out here without a coat but I'm pretty comfy and cozy in my grandpa sweater and long scarf. It's the perfect attire for a leisurely brunch on a sunny (but cold) day with the family. As usual, I like to add my own little touches of flare. I wore the Jill Stuart clogs that I'm learning to love; a promotional tee found in my car yesterday; and a futuristic looking faux leather silver skirt.
I happen to love this cardigan. I love it like I went to Talbots.com looking for more but abandoned mission when I saw the price. I wear it with everything. It's the winter version of my denim shirt.
Thrift a Grandpa Sweater
Cozy sweaters are low hanging fruit at the thrift store. Very easy to find!
Of course, there are a lot of pilling, scuzzy sweaters too. Watch out for missing buttons or holes if you're not the crafty type.
Wool and cashmere sweaters have the additional cost of dry cleaning but it's worth it.
True story: I saw a little flying thing on a sweater at a thrift store once. Since that vision, I take wool and cashmere from thrift store bag to dry cleaners or very hot dryer. It's not always a glamorous thrift store life.

Style a Grandpa Sweater
The grandpa sweater is just a big ol' ball of coziness. If it's oversized, try wrapping and belting instead of using the buttons.
Eliminate the frump with pretty, girly things like a chiffon skirt or sequins!
Go casual with a graphic tee and leggings or those trendy printed pajama pants.
Don't completely dress down unless you're going for a total grandpa look.

I do love myself a big old cozy sweater though. I have never shopped the men's section before but I saw a Target spread and the ladies had on men's sweaters - LOVED!
