Thrifted Treasure: Shoulder Pads & Granny Pants
This is an experimental ensemble. It's a little bit outside of my comfort zone. I'm wearing clothes from decades past on the top and bottom. I like it but will I feel confident in it? We shall see as I'm most likely wearing this tonight. It's cold out there. I'm thinking of swapping out the shoes for black tights and black pumps and adding a leopard or yellow sweater. Thoughts?
I bought the silk blouse at my thrift adventure meetup with twitter/blogger/entrepreneurial friends SewSoDef and OnlyLaila. Off topic a bit but who goes all the way out to the suburbs without taking clear directions, gets lost, doesn't add minutes to they're pay as you go cell phone, takes a camera but doesn't take pictures AND FORGETS TO BRING MONEY? That would be me. Due to the kindness of SewSoDef I was able to leave with my loot (including a beaded jacket, pjs for V, and 80s purple pumps.) It's good to have friends! I'm not a complete loser. I reimbursed her via Paypal as soon as I got home.
Anyway, the blouse is blue leaning towards purple. VIOLET? It has pleats in the front and back. It's shaped like a double breasted blazer and nipped in the waist. That's what gives it a slight peplum and that is why I bought it. I love peplums. It fits pretty well. It has shoulder pads. I haven't decided if I want to remove them or not. Sometimes I like a little bit of shoulder padding. I think it gets a bad wrap because of the football sized ones popular in the 80s.
It's silk which means I had to take it to the cleaners. I hate having to dry clean my thrift finds, it adds to the overall cost of the item. The blouse was $1.50 so it was still a good deal after cleaning. The buttons or the blouse have changed colors or maybe the two color look is what the designer was going for. Probably not. Someday I'll get around to changing those. Maybe.
The red pants are tapered and elastic waist with petite sizing so they hit me right at the ankle. They're polyester crepe. They don't wrinkle and the crease is permanent *raises the roof*. In other words, they rock. The color is a very bright red with a gold tone "buckle" at the waist.
The belt is also thrifted. The clasp is either interlocking arrowheads or feathers. It's a part of the stretchy belt collection and rarely worn. I don't think I will keep in on if this is what I wear tonight.
If only the tripod could see and not lop off a chunk of my head. |

What say you?
