Adventures in Foodland

....And we're back to half disgust when I put food in the Queen's mouth. We had 1 really good week. It may be because I was feeding her expensive baby food in a pouch Ella's Kitchen. They are very tasty fruit and vegetable mixes. She ate those nearly $2 a pouch meals in one sitting. She also enjoyed quite a few french fries from our plate. I don't like that but it keeps her from flipping the eff out when we're in a restaurant.

So I say to myself I can do that. Anyone remember the Eddie Murphy skit about Mama Burgers vs. McDonalds?

Anyways, I think this must be what she was feeling because she doesn't get that same yum-yum look in her eye when I serve up Mama Gourmet.

I've made green beans with basil, roasted sweet potato fries, and sweet potatoes mashed. Greens beans were an absolute no. I tasted them and understood. Flavorless. Blech. I put a lil unsweetened applesauce in the mix and got a couple nibbles.

She likes to squish the sweet potato fries in her hand and use them as play toys and occasionally put them in her mouth.

The mashed sweet potatoes probably have the best reception. I can tell she likes them and I'm not forcing it on her but there's no yum-yum look and she's over it after a few spoons.

I don't get it. She will snack on dryer lint, my hair, and nibble my toes but she clams up with actual food. I've said it a million times and I'll say it again.

Babies. Are. Weird.

Have a good baby food/blend I should try? Did you try feeding with a spoon or let your little one have at it?

Nilah is only 4 1/2 months old, but she likes my homemade baby food so far. I make her green beans and peas. I buy organic and all natural veggies, frozen for $1 to $3 a bag. It lasts 3-4 weeks each bag! Her daycare has given her mashed up banannas and she likes them, too. I'm hoping she keeps up her veggie loving ways 'cause I'm not looking to spend $2/pouch of the store-bought kind. lol

$2 a pouch.

Sticker shock.

@Susan I think I'll try some sweet potato blends. She's opening her mouth again! She's had lots and lots of mashed sweet potatoes over the last couple of days. Also, the "fancy" book I got from the library has me adding water to the recipes.

@Ellen They are the most expensive of the "pouches". They are good though and they don't have any additional ingredients.
