Thrifted Treasure: Chevron Topper and Orange Sweater Vest

Yesterday, I ventured downtown on the train with V in the carrier for Afrobella & Friends TJ Maxx & Marshalls Holiday Shopping Party. I pulled out some complicated pieces that required some thought and work to pull it together. I thought I would have time but Violet woke up just as I stepped out of the shower. Boo. It was short nap day.

The chevron coat is my absolute favorite thrift store find. It's vintage and looks like it was home sewn. It came with a matching dress that was way to snug so I donated it back to the store. I don't wear it as much as I would like to. I thought I could layer it up for warmth but the layers were just making me look frumpy.

The shirt has been worn before. It's purple. It's J. Crew and it was brand new.

The vest is a reddish orange color and I didn't quite know what to do with it. I bought it for the color and the square shaped neckline. I threw it over the shirt for warmth and I had a bit of gaposis at the bust. Orange and purple? Does it go together? What else can I do with it?

I was definitely doing too much yesterday. I should have done a simple top and jeans but that gets so boring everyday. I need a night out so I can be as spicy as a want to be!

What is the most prized possession in your closet? Does it get a lot of wear?

  1. love the purple under the coat! Hmmm...I don't wear orange at all... I wouldn't know where to start!

My two prized clothing posessions are both thrifted. My $8 leather boots and my $2.50 blue blazer. There are a couple posts about them on my blog. (of course)

  3. Cute! I wish I was more thrifty. I can never find cute when I try to shop thrifty.
I have a few pieces that I like to wear, but I need to add more accessories to spice it up.

  4. I love the orange sweater vest. How about a grey pencil skirt, white blouse and nude pumps, or a long white button down shirt, skinny jeans (black or dark blue) and some brown high boots.

My black pencil skirt is my go to piece for work. I try to hide it in the back of my closet so I don't think about it but it always works its way back.

  5. Mrs. Colllins suggestions for the vest are dead on, I think. Either the skirt or jeans. I love orange and grey together.

As long as you don't pair the vest with black, you'll be fine.

My fav thrifted items are an embroidered suede skirt. I got it about 10 years ago. It still fits. I love it. Need to dig it out.

I also have a metallic olive green leather vintage clutch. To die for...it folds over.

Lastly, my Frye campus boots are vintage. In fact, both pairs of my Frye boots are thrifted. And I love 'em equally.
