10 Questions for a Thriftanista - April

It's time for the first 10 Questions for a Thriftanista of 2014! I am very pleased to feature one of my favorite bloggers. She's a mom, she's a thrifter, and she's from Chicago. We're twinsies! I've only met April in person one time. We were both at an event and I totally did the awkward "hi, I follow your blog" thing and she welcomed me with a big hug and made me feel very comfortable. Thanks April for being such a beautiful person inside and out!

1. Favorite places to shop?

I always find amazing stuff at the Unique Thrift on Fullerton Ave. in Chicago. I'm also a fan of Savers. I don't mind taking the drive to Downers Grove, IL (it's huge!), but they recently opened one up in Franklin Park (which it closer to the city) if I need a quick thrifting fix!

2. What are some of your favorite finds?

I've grown quite the collection of vintage coats - my favorite being a vintage leopard one. And I love finding unique jewelry. I have this gold statement necklace that works so well for day or night.

3. How would you describe your style?

I'd call it casual glamorous. I love mixing masculine and feminine pieces, but I always need a little something - like red lipstick or rhinestone earrings - to glam it up.

4. 10 minutes to shop what aisle to you run to?

Outerwear or blazers.

5. How much of your closet is thrifted?

Most of it is! Very rarely do I shop in regular clothing stores any more. The only items I don't buy thrifted are shoes and undergarments.

6. Why do you thrift?

When I first started thrifting, it was to help relieve my bank account! Also, I was a new mom at the time so my clothes were getting ruined by babies...my husband and students also had a part in destroying my clothes! I wasn't about to spend good money on clothing that was inevitably going to get ruined. But now, even with the money to spend on beautiful things, I still love thrifting because I'm able to find those unique pieces...pieces that fit my personality and style. Nothing is more disappointing than walking into a room where everyone is dressed the same. When you thrift, you don't have to worry about that.

7. Do you have a thrifting budget?

I don't. Usually I spend between $20 to $50.

8. What's your thrifting "white whale"? (a rare find that can be found or unfound)

I have been on the endless hunt for the perfect, broken-in, black leather motorcycle jacket. I'll find it one day!

9. Do you have thrift tips you'd like to share?

Don't be afraid to dig! Pieces aren't' going to present themselves to you. Also, I love looking in other sections in the thrift store that people might not typically shop. I'm found some amazing tops and jackets in the boys' and men's sections.

10. Where can we see more your amazing finds?

I blog at Knocked Up Fabulous, share daily pics on Instagram, and recently started a Facebook page.

She's gorgeous! I really love those perfectly destroyed jeans! I so need to move to a bigger city, immediately. Cincinnati thrifting these days is a sea of discarded Merona clothes from Target! :(
